JK Rowling has revealed that she has already decided the title of the seventh book in the series, in a letter to a remarkable fan.

The Harry Potter fan had written to the author to commend her on her rant about weight and society, and in the author’s reply she mentioned that she has already decided the title of the next book.

A scan of the letter can be seen at Mugglenet Arrow where Rowling writes:

Book seven: can’t tell you the title (you didn’t really expect it did you?!) but I think I’ve finally got one. It could have been called a lot of things, you see.

Rowling also mentions the mixed response to her recent comments on the pressure on young girls to be thin, and talks about a recent interview she gave about Harry Potter actor, Robbie Coltrane.

Quote by Jo
As for men and weight, I’ve just given an interview for a documentary on Robbie Coltrane in which I talked about how sexy Robbie is… Just as most men don’t like stick thin women, so a lot of women find brains and wit much more attractive than a fake-tanned six pack, me included!

Harry Potter Fans Create A Paper Trail May 12, 2006

It was author J K Rowling's fault. If she hadn't to mention running out of paper not so long ago, her fans wouldn't have decided to step in.

The minute she complained about a shortage of 'normal, lined paper' in her hometown Edinburgh, Potter fanatics from around the world began sending in paper.

Reams and reams of it.

Some sent in single sheets.

Others sent entire notepads.

Some recommended particular shops.

Others enclosed maps.

One man even sent an embossed set of notebooks with Rowling's name on each sheet!

It must have driven fans crazy — the idea of the seventh and final title in the Potter series being delayed on account of a lack of paper.

While mentioning the shortage on her web site a month ago, the author had explained why she preferred pen and paper to a computer, to draft her novels. It made her feel like 'something out of the 18th century,' she added. Fans duly took note though, and Rowling now has 'enough paper to write several book sevens.'

She has called for a halt to the deluge.

'Be careful what you wish for,' says Rowling on her site, 'it might come true.'

In related news, the author has attacked critics who recently accused her of being prejudiced against overweight people.

Not so long ago, she had talked about her fear of her daughters growing up to be 'empty-headed, self-obsessed, emaciated clones' because of the media's obsession with weight. Some criticised her comments, saying that overweight characters in her novels were often portrayed as figures of fun.

Rowling has defended her books though, pointing out that several of her most important and admirable characters are on the plumper side.

School Board To Make Decision About Harry Potter Books May 10, 2006

SUWANEE, Ga. — The Gwinnett County Board of Education is expected to make a decision this week on whether Harry Potter books should remain on public school shelves.

Laura Mallory, an evangelical Christian who has three children at J.C. Magill Elementary School, objected to the books. She said in complaint forms she objects to what she calls the books "evil themes, witchcraft, demonic activity, murder, evil blood sacrifice, spells and teaching children all of this."

The school board is expected to decide whether to ban the books or keep them in school libraries at its monthly board meeting tomorrow night.

Supporters and opponents of the book series attended a public hearing April 20 to voice their opinions.

This is the latest book appeal in the Gwinnett County system. The last came in 1997 when the board was asked to remove "Ghost Camp" by R.L. Stein and "It's Not the End of the World" by Judy Blume.

Committees recommended the board take no action — allowing the books to stay on the shelves. The school board upheld both those decisions.

JK Rowling Privacy Victory Puts Celeb Kids Out Of Bounds May 9, 2006

SOURCE(s): Online Press Gazette

Harry Potter author JK Rowling has won a privacy case against the Sunday Express which effectively means British newspapers are banned from photographing the children of celebrities in many situations.

It underlines the European precedent set by last year’s Caroline of Monaco European Court of Human Rights Judgment which said the press was wrong to publish pictures of members of her family taken in public places when they are on private business.

Rowling and her husband Dr Neil Murray sued over the publication of a picture of their son David and was represented by media law firm Schillings.

Senior partner Keith Schilling said: “This case demonstrates that the law is moving to recognize that the children of public figures are entitled to private lives, and, most importantly, to enjoy their childhood without unwanted media intrusion.”

According to Schillings the case could have “serious implications for the paparazzi” and the law firm revealed that Rowling and Murray are separately pursuing agency Big Pictures over the Sunday Express pictures.

Rowling has previously succeeded in privacy complaints made to the PCC over publication of photographs of her daughter and photographs of London home.

She said: “I am delighted that my children’s right to privacy has been recognised by the Daily Express. Neil and I will continue to protect that right, on our children’s behalf, as vigorously as possible."

"While I accept that there is legitimate press interest in me and my work I am delighted that my children’s right to privacy has been recognised by the Daily Express. Neil and I will continue to protect that right, on our children’s behalf, as vigorously as possible”.
